Rosk´n Roll - a regional waste company
Rosk´n Roll Ltd, is responsible for solid waste management in Western Uusimaa, the South-West part of Finland. The region is situated west of, but not far from Helsinki and has a population of 134.000 people. The company is owned by municipalities having 99,62 % of the shares, and a number of private companies having less than one percent of the shares. The owner municipalties Hanko, Inkoo, Karjalohja, Lohja, Nummi-Pusula, Raasepori, Siuntio and Vihti, founded the company in 1993.
Rosk'n Roll Ltd has the role of coordinating household waste management in Western Uusimaa. It started as a "landfill company", but now concentrates more and more on recycling and high-class technical treatment of waste. In 1993, fourteen municipality landfills were in use, today there is only 1. The landfill that is used today is the inter-municipal Waste Centre of Munkkaa situated at Lohja and operated by Rosk'n Roll Ltd. The landfill was opened in 2000 and it fills the EU requirements for waste management. The Munkkaa Waste Centre operates not only as a landfill, but also as a centre for sorting waste into recycling, as a waste advisory office and as the administrative organ for waste management in the area.
Rosk’n Roll’s responsibilities as the household waste management coordinator of Western Uusimaa are:
- to plan, develop and coordinate waste management
- to collect recyclable and hazardous waste
- to collect and manage biowaste
- to arrange waste collection for residential premises
- to manage waste treatment
- to see to the aftercare of the waste treatment landfill
- to provide waste advisory services for the residents of the area
